“Activity Badges”
Activity Badges
There are activity badges in each of the scouting sections. Follow the link from
the relevant sections page for more details.
There are 12 Activity Badges in the Beaver Program.
There are now 69 Activity Badges in the Scout Program.
Some of these can be earned at meeting nights or on the camps and other additional activities we organise.
Other Activity Badges will require the Scout to carry out a certain amount
of self-controlled activity in liaison with their Leaders. Other activities organised through Schools, Clubs
or even just as a hobby may qualify.
“Ages”
Scout’s is for children aged 10½ to 14.
The split in the scout movement is as follows;-
- Beaver Scout – Aged between 6 and 8 years.
- Cub Scout – Aged between 8 and 10½ years.
- Scout - Aged between 10½ and 14 years.
- Explorer Scout - Aged between 14 and 18 years.
- Scout Network – This is a County/Area co-ordinated Network for Members aged 18-25 years.
“Camps”
Scout camps will be a fun part of the activities the Scouts participate in.
They will need to have a sleeping bag and an airbed/sleeping roll.
There will be additional costs involved with camps etc. We will always let you know in
advance what these costs are going to be and we will require that all fees be paid in
advance of the event.
Parents/Guardian's will need to sign a “permission to camp” form and
return it to us prior to the camp.
“Challenges”
There are 8 Challenge awards. To gain the Chief Scouts Award, a scout needs to complete all 8
Challenges. The Troop activities are designed to cover all of the Challenges during the time in the
Scout Section. The 8 Challenge badges are:-

Outdoor Challenge
Outdoor Plus Challenge
Promise Challenge
“Fees / Subscriptions”
The cost will be £30 per school term, which is same for all 3 sections. Please ensure all
subscriptions are paid promptly, they will be collected at the start of each term.
There may be additional costs involved with extra activities. We will let you know in
advance what these costs are and will ask you to sign a slip giving your child permission to
attend any camps/ extra events etc.
Scouts joining or leaving part way through a term will be charged £2.50 per week.
“Investiture”
This will be held about 4 - 6 weeks after joining the Scout troop.
For those 4 – 6 weeks before investiture they will study for the Scout Membership Award,
this includes learning about the Scout troop, its members, ceremonies and traditions and
learning the Scout Promise and Scout Law. They should learn the Scout Promise for the Investiture.
The investiture ceremony will usually be held at the end of a Thursday meeting and parent's/guardian's
are wellcome to attend.
New Scouts will be presented with a Neckerchief and badges at their investiture. We will ask for a
contribution of £3.50 towards the cost of these.
“Joining in/Participation awards”
Participation Awards are awarded every 12 months from the time the Scout joins the Troop.
For those that have been in Beavers or Cubs the awards are continuous.
“The Scout LAW”
A Scout is to be trusted.
A Scout is loyal.
A Scout is friendly and considerate.
A Scout belongs to the worldwide family of Scouts.
A Scout has courage in all difficulties.
A Scout makes good use of time and is careful of possessions and property.
A Scout has self-respect and respect for others.
“Parades”
There are two parades that we ask all Scouts should try to attend if possible. These are the
St. George’s Day parade in April and the Remembrance Day parade in November.
The St George's day parade is organised by Chorley district and is held in Chorley town centre.
The Rememberance Day parade is just a short walk from St. John's school Whittle to the memorial gardens
and is made under police escourt.

The Troop activities are designed to cover all of these areas, and the Challenge Badges and Activity Badges support the activities
“The Scout PROMISE”

“Scout shop”
The chorley district scout shop is located on Wright Street, Chorley.
It is open:-
- Friday 19.00 - 21.00.
- Saturday 10.00 - 12.00.
“Uniform”
Scouts wear a long sleeved, Teal Green shirt and they will need to have this for their investiture.
Optional activity trousers are also available.

New Scouts will be presented with a Neckerchief and badges at their investiture.
We will ask for a contribution of £3.50 towards the cost of these.
Those Scouts moving up from Cubs may keep their existing neckerchief.
